Ask me anything   About me   Why Peru?   Discovering India   World Wonders   Exploration   Kay's resume

300 days. That's how long I will live in Lima, Peru as I study Spanish, Peruvian literature, politics, history and international journalism at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú. I began my international travels last summer, with a two week trip to India. After living and reporting in New Delhi, a city of 24 million, I feel I can live and travel anywhere. Thanks for following my journey from the Midwest to the Andes Mountains.

How my first international trip began

During an incredible meal, Hailey Konnath and I pose for a quick photo with Hindu blessing still gracing our foreheads.Prince was blaring through the speakers, and I wasn’t paying much attention to my professor slash boss, Scott Winter.

But once he uttered the word India, I snapped to attention. He said something like “I might be going to India,” as if he were going to Noodles & Co. for lunch.

    My natural response: “Um… what?”

Almost nine months later, I’m actually headed to India with Scott Winter, Bruce Mitchell and Nancy Mitchell for JOUR491 Mobile Media in India. I am out of my mind, shaking in my gladiator sandles and ready to sweat off at least 100 pounds in 120 degree heat. But more than that, I’m ready to tell stories with grit, another Scott Winter euphemism.

I’m heading on this trip with 18 fellow UNL journalism and advertising students. We will write, take photos, shoot video. But we also will have the time of our lives.

Look for our coverage from New Delhi, Agra and Lucknow July 16 through 31 on our website.
